HIDDEN MAGIC has launched!

My new fantasy romance Hidden Magic has launched on Amazon! The paperback version will be available other places soon but the ebook version will only be on Kindle, at least for a while, so that it can participate in Kindle Unlimited.

Don't you just love the cover!

From the back cover:
The valley of the River Wystan is isolated from the rest of the world.  Many years before it had been united under the Lord of Cold Spring, who had suppressed the practice of magic. But when he died, his son wasn’t strong enough to hold the other lords’ loyalty. Now Lord Garrick, the new Lord of Cold Spring, means to resume his grandfather’s role of overlord for the whole valley.  Young Richart Tallengen, newly minted Lord of Esterby, tries to fight off Lord Garrick’s men, but he’s captured and carried to Cold Spring Castle

When his sister Maura comes to Cold Spring to see her brother, she catches Lord Garrick’s eye.  Lord Garrick is as attracted by her courage and her brains as much as by her looks, but he is very surprised to discover that there is more to Maura than meets the eye. She has magical abilities, even though she doesn’t know it.

Alien Vows has launched!

Alien Vows, the sequel to Alien Bonds, and Book 2 of the 3 book Wakanreo trilogy, is now for sale on Amazon in both Kindle and paperback formats.

It took more than nine months, but I still feel like a should offer you a cigar!

UPDATE: Alien Vows already has its first review!  It's short, but very good. Five stars, in fact!

ALIEN VOWS is now available for pre-order!

The Kindle version of Alien Vows is now available for pre-order! The paperback version will be along soon, but I have to make some corrections to it. I've ordered a proof copy to be sure I want the matte cover. Delivery is set for September 5.

I've finally figured out how to handle the X-Ray feature. It's not available in the KDP author dashboard until the book is loaded and ready, so you have to make it available for sale or pre-order if you want to be able to run the X-Ray tool. At the same time, you are locked out of making changes several days before the delivery date, so you need to set that far enough ahead that you can do all your corrections and reload the file well before that date. With all the alien words in this series, X-Ray is crucial!

I always give my proofreader a copy of the formatted print pages as she finds that much easier to proof from than a Kindle copy.

ALIEN BONDS has launched!

Alien Bonds is now for sale in the  Kindle store and in trade  paperback! If you're a Kindle Unlimited subscriber, it will be available for free for at least the next 90 days.

I'm very excited to launch this book with the new X-Ray feature available on the Kindle because it's the kind of book that can really make use of X-Ray

Once I was sure the X-Ray feature would work with the many Wakanrean terms I had added to it, I put a note at the front of the Kindle version of the book to mention it to readers.  You can see how it looks above, from the "Look Inside" view of the Kindle book.

A lot of publishers don't bother with doing X-Ray setup because most readers don't use it. And most readers don't use it because they don't know it's there. I think one reason Amazon doesn't do more to inform Kindle users about it is because so many books don't have it available. They don't want to get readers excited about a new feature only to find out it's not there more than half the time. It's the classic chicken-and-egg situation!  I wish Amazon would alert readers whenever they open a new book with x-Ray enabled. This would solve the problem and maybe the X-Ray chicken would lay a lot more eggs!

ALIEN BONDS is available for pre-order!

If you want to buy it now, go here The book will be delivered to your Kindle or Kindle app on Tuesday. To begin with, it will only be available as a paperback and as a Kindle book, but after a few months I will launch on other platforms.

In ALIEN BONDS, two lives are changed in an instant. Industrial chemist Dina Bellaire travels all the way to the planet Wakanreo to advance her career. Her carefully planned life goes up in flames the second she meets Kuaron Du, a Wakanrean who makes his living singing ancient songs in a dead language. Both of them know they can’t go back to the way they were before they met. They just have to convince the rest of the universe that what happened to them is real.

I have never used the Amazon pre-order status before, and in fact I am only using it now because of one thing: the X-Ray feature.

The X-Ray feature isn't available to use until a book exists and is on the author's "bookshelf." By making it available for pre-order, I am able to work on the X-Ray set up but no one can buy the book until I am done with it. I am putting a lot of the Wakanrean words in the story into the X-Ray feature to help readers figure out what they mean. I'll post more about that later, but I am too busy doing the set up to explain now.

Turnabout is now in other ebook stores!

I always launch new ebooks in KDP Select, which means they're only available on Amazon, but eventually, I let that enrollment expire and launch in other stores.  That has happened with my newest novel Turnabout, now available as follows:

Buy links

US Kindle store (also available in every other Kindle store)
iBooks
B&N Nook
And as a paperback: AmazonBarnes & Noble

Updated: Finally got Google Books to accept my file; or rather, their tech staff did. I have to say both B&N and Google Books could make their interface easier to use.

From the first Amazon review:
"This is a fascinating story, looking at a lot of society’s issues from a different view point, but still exploring them in a very interesting way. Buxton creates some wonderful characters to tell this story. Marjani and Esi are two that stand out amongst a cast of exceptionally well written characters that don’t just tell this story, but through their portrayals give us a true understanding of what it is like to live in this alternate universe.
Buxton has also done an interesting job of creating Makoro, building this alternate universe and timeline, and how it has evolved under such different circumstances."
And, as a bonus, I dropped the ebook price to $2.99, at least for now.

TURNABOUT has launched!

So, Turnabout  is now available in paperback and on Kindle! I always launch first on Kindle only,as far as ebooks, because that way the book can participate in KDP Select, which allows Amazon subscribers to borrow the book. They pay a flat fee, and the author is paid based on the number of pages they read. The agreement lasts 90 days, at at the end of that time, I will decide whether to renew Kindle Select or launch on additional platforms.

Meanwhile, here's the blurb!

  • Jason Miller's biggest worries were keeping up with his homework, paying for his classic jazz habit, and hiding the fact that he carried a flip phone. But then one day he finds himself teleporting from place to place, a talent he can't control. It gets worse when he lands in an alternate world, one that has many, many more women than men. It sounds great until Jason learns the downside to being a precious commodity: Having a harem is no fun when you're the one who's locked up.

The dragon in Where Magic Rules has taken flight!

My fantasy novella Where Magic Rules is now available in the Smashwords ebookstore as well as in the Kindle store. It will take a while to load to all the affiliated retailers.  I'll post when it shows up. And because it's a novella, it's only 99¢.
